What it means to resolve- the great debate about resolutions

Jan 09, 2023

Have you been noticing a great debate about resolutions and some very strong opinions about whether it's a bunch of bulls*%# or if it's a worthy choice to make?

Here's what I believe...

If it's January 1st, make a resolution.

If it's January 9th, make a resolution.

No matter what day it is on the calendar, resolve to LEAD your life by making a decision to become better, achieve something, or show up in a way that makes you proud.

TO RESOLVE is simply to say- this is how it's gonna be.

AND WHEN YOU DECIDE THIS- you cut off the possibility of anything else happening except what you committed to.

By definition, the word resolve means-  to "settle or find a solution to (a problem, dispute, or contentious matter); decide firmly on a course of action.

What day it says on the calendar doesn't matter- as long as you make the decision to find a solution and firmly take action, you can do that any day and EVERY day- can't you?

Twelve years ago yesterday I found myself driving away from our dream home with my three kids in the van, in tears.

I didn't know where we were going or what was ahead, but I knew I was leaving behind the life I had built to that point.

At 40 years old, that was terrifying. I remember looking in my rearview mirror seeing my daughter's face and thinking... I don't know what is going to happen next, but I know it's going to be better than it has been. I have to do this- for them, and for me.

It wasn't January 1st. It was January 8th. I didn't set it as a "resolution" but I did make a decision that was nonnegotiable and I had a deep purpose for WHY I was taking this step that motivated me to follow through.

Do I think you should make a resolution on New Years' day-

YES!

Do I think you should make a resolution every day for the rest of the year-

YES!

Every step you take to start again and try again is a step forward.

And even if you don't always feel you have a choice, you do.

The only person who can do this for you- is you!

So, on whatever day you are reading this, I want to encourage you to resolve to LEAD your life today. Whatever that means for you.

Love & light,

Corliss
